How to make a KAKADU KITE

Get an adult to help you make this kite. You will need: *wrapping paper or newspaper * 100 metres of cotton twine *small piece of wood or plastic bottle *dowelling or *bamboo sticks (12mm wide, 6mm thick, 1.5m long) *craft glue *scissors, ruler, pencil.

1. Cut sticks - one 54cm long, one 72cm long. Cut notches 5mm from the end of these sticks to attach string.

2. Tie the two sticks together with string (wind as shown in picture 1, 4-5 times).

3. Make a frame with string (as shown in picture 2). Tie it up tight.

4. Measure and cut the paper with room for overlap (as shown in picture 3) Decorate the front of the paper with your picture of Kakadu Croc or Kakadu drawings.

5. Stick the paper to the frame. Strengthen the frame with glue and sticky-tape (as shown in picture 4).

6. Attach a bridle string and flying line (as shown in picture 5). Wrap the end of the flying around a piece of wood or plastic bottle to make a reel.

7. Make a tail 3.5-4.5 metres long. Cut triangle pieces of paper 25cm wide and attach to string (as shown in picture 6). Attach the tail to the bottom of the kite.

8. Fly your new kite.
